Hello Reader,
Autumn has arrived here in the Algarve — the air softer, the light more golden — and likely where you are too (unless you’re lucky enough to be in the Southern Hemisphere). I’m savoring these quieter days before heading to Italy at the end of November for a long-awaited getaway with dear friends. Our route will wind from Milan to Orvieto (with a stop to see Chris, an old friend from Annapolis now living in Chiusi), then on to Rome, where pasta, pizza, gelato, and affogatos await!
But before all that deliciousness, I’ll be presenting at two events in the Algarve, and I’d love to share them with you — in case you’re nearby and feel inspired to join.
Friday, November 7, 2025 - Algarve Tech Hub Summit
You may be surprised to know that the Algarve (and Lisbon too) are becoming vibrant centers for technology and innovation. Each November, Lisbon hosts the world-renowned Web Summit — and here in Lagos, the Algarve Tech Hub Summit brings together creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, and changemakers a bit closer to home.
This year, I’m honored to be part of a panel titled “The Human Algorithm: Balancing Tech, Sustainability, and Wellbeing.”
If you guessed I’ll be speaking about wellbeing, you’re absolutely right — and how the beauty of the Algarve (and my Restorative Retreats here) helps us remain grounded and human in a world driven by speed and technology.
It’s always a wonderful event with familiar faces and lively conversations. I hope you’ll be one of them.
Monday, November 10, 2025 - The Space In Lagos, 6:30pm-8:30pm
If you haven’t yet discovered The Space in Lagos, it’s a creative hub where artists, writers, and curious souls of all ages gather to explore and connect. They host some of the most inspiring people in the Algarve, so I’m in very good company.
That evening, I’ll be sharing stories and insights from my memoir, The Shaman’s Wife: A Mystical Journey of Surrender and Self-Discovery. I’ll talk about what it’s really like to write memoir — how the story began years ago in the U.S., led me through my transformative years in Ecuador with a shaman, and ultimately brought me to a peaceful life here in Portugal.
I’ll also be signing books and share a few behind-the-scenes reflections that didn’t make it into the book and open the floor for questions about writing, shamanism, or life on the path of surrender. (Yes, there will be refreshments!)
As I prepare for these upcoming gatherings — and my Italian adventure soon after — I’m feeling grateful for the rhythms of the year: the way work, rest, and play weave together when we allow them to. Whether you join me at one of these events or simply follow along from afar, I hope this season offers you space to breathe, connect, and be inspired by your own unfolding story.
